Hello
(There’s a special announcement and gift below.)
Every $300M deal I’ve helped win had the same hidden variable.
And every time we ignored it, the room went quiet.
Not out of interest but out of distance.
For six years, I worked inside a Big Four consulting firm on the most significant and complex transformation deals the firm pursued.
Some were RFPs and others, career-defining bets.
Multi-million-dollar pursuits with global stakeholders, long sales cycles, and real reputational risk.
The teams I worked with were brilliant.
But brilliance alone didn’t win.
Not when the room was full of C-level decision-makers, each scanning for risk, not features.
Here’s what I started to notice.
We’d walk in ready to lead with:
Credentials
Capabilities
Global scale
Technical depth
But the buyer was asking:
“Will this reduce risk fast enough?”
“Will this make my next board meeting easier?”
“Will this fail quietly, or succeed loudly?”
There was a language mismatch.
Not in translation, but in worldview.
And that’s where I came in.
My role was to reframe the narrative.
To work with the pursuit team.
Lead client service partners, pursuit managers, SMEs, writers and designers, etc, to help them shift from:
🚫 “Here’s what we do”
✅ “Here’s what you gain”
🚫 “Here’s our approach”
✅ “Here’s your avoided risk”
🚫 “Here’s our value prop”
✅ “Here’s what changes for you”
This wasn’t copywriting.
It was cognitive alignment.
We weren’t just making the message clearer.
We were making it feel familiar, like something the buyer already believed.
I remember one deal in particular.
The pursuit team had rehearsed the pitch ten times.
It was flawless on paper.
But the first dry run with senior leadership fell flat.
The feedback?
“It’s impressive. But I don’t see myself in it.”
That was the clue.
We restructured the entire story around the buyer’s actual priorities:
Their transformation pressure.
Their industry dynamics.
Their political realities.
We dropped 40% of the original slides.
Replaced every “we” with “you.”
And led with risk reframed as clarity.
When we presented it again, the CFO leaned in before slide three.
The CEO didn’t just nod.
He started paraphrasing our words as his own.
The decision was made in the room.
Not because of what we said.
But because of how they felt:
Understood. Seen. Safe.
There’s a pattern here.
The winning teams don’t just tell better stories.
They tell stories that fit the buyer’s mental model.
✅ They don’t compete on logic.
They compete on resonance.
✅ They don’t just translate.
They reframe.
✅ They don’t describe the solution.
They mirror the stakes.
So if you’re working a high-stakes pursuit right now, ask yourself:
Are we explaining ourselves?
Or are we making the buyer feel like we already understand them?
Because in C-suite conversations, the most valuable thing you can offer…
is not an answer.
It’s recognition.
