Closing deals

Read Time: 5 Minutes

Hello

(There’s a special announcement and gift below.)

If you’re struggling to close strategic deals, the problem probably isn’t your product or even your pitch.

Here’s how to fix that and increase your close rate this quarter.

Most marketers think they’re selling outcomes.

They’re not.

At best, they’re selling promises.
At worst, they’re selling noise.

Let me explain.

Rookie sellers talk about features.

“We have a faster engine.”
“Our platform integrates with everything.”
“Our dashboards are beautiful.”

Slightly more advanced sellers talk about outcomes.

“We help you save time.”
“We increase efficiency.”
“We grow your pipeline.”

Sounds better, right?

But still… something’s off.

Because even when the pitch is polished,
even when the math checks out,
even when the buyer agrees…

They still don’t buy.

Why?

Because people don’t buy what makes the most sense.
They buy what makes them feel seen.

And that’s the part most miss:

Recognition is the real unlock.

Recognition is what bridges the gap between what you offer and what they need.

Recognition is what creates the emotional glue between the what and the why.

It’s the moment the buyer thinks:

“Ah. You get it. You get me.”

And only then are they open to change.

Psychologists call this “shared reality.”

The sense that you and I see the world the same way.
And it’s foundational to trust, persuasion, and decision-making.

Recognition taps into identity, not just utility.

You’re not just helping them hit a number.
You’re helping them protect their reputation.
Their team. Their sanity. Their vision.

Think about the last time you really felt understood in a sales conversation.

Not tolerated.
Not pitched.
But seen.

Now think about the last time you bought something expensive, complex, or high-stakes.

You didn’t just buy the outcome.
You bought the confidence that this person gets what’s really at stake for you.

That’s not messaging.
That’s mirroring.

According to a Salesforce study, 84% of buyers say being treated like a person (not a number) is very important to winning their business.

Yet only 37% feel like most companies succeed at this.

That’s a 47-point trust gap.

And you don’t close it with more benefits.
You close it with more belief.

Here’s the real ladder:

Features explain what you do.

Outcomes justify why it matters.

But recognition?

That’s the moment your story becomes theirs.

Sell features and you’re informative.
Sell outcomes and you’re persuasive.

But create recognition… and you’re irresistible.

As Daniel Kahneman put it:

“People think they make decisions based on facts.
But what they actually respond to is the feeling of knowing.”

Recognition creates that feeling.

It’s not logic.
It’s not emotion.

It’s resonance: the moment both align.

So next time you’re crafting a pitch, ask:

Does this tell them what we do?
Does this show them what they get?

But most of all.

Does this make them feel understood?

Because until they feel that, you’re not selling a solution.

You’re narrating into a void.
