Internet, gays and women have it so bad you can\u2019t help but cringe. <a href=\"http:\/\/qz.com\/451785\/indias-startup-scene-is-one-of-the-worst-in-the-world-for-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quartz<\/a> chimes in.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>This is fucking insane!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Having lived and worked in Chandigarh, New Delhi, Mumbai and New York I can\u2019t seem to wrap my head around this data. I owe this self-inflicted-debate a fair trial.<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, calling Mumbai\u2019s nightlife \u201cokay\u201d by any stretch is teetotalism two point zero. But fucking partying right up there with London, Toronto and New York is the least of my worries for this essay.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, in Mumbai, everyone speaks English. It\u2019s the one and only place, in India, where English is the most natural and acceptable way to communicate, with everyone. Everyone.<\/p>\n<p>This data feeds into this perceived \u201cgeneralised\u201d notion of what is happening in India.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe saw cows and people pooping on the street and beggars everywhere. Case in point.<\/p>\n<p>There is wealth and poverty everywhere, including North America and Europe. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usdebtclock.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The US owes Trillions of dollars<\/a>. But that\u2019s not indicative of ground realities in entirety.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Data is not equal to the truth<\/strong><\/em>. Get over it.<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t speak on the behalf of women and gay but how can internet get a bad name in India? Airtel! Are you listening? India\u00a0practically survives on it. Isn&#8217;t India\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/03\/29\/world\/asia\/29iht-letter29.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of the biggest outsourcing hubs in the world<\/a>? I\u2019ve experienced the days of dial-up and 4G on my iPhone 6 Plus and never did I have issues with internet speed.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>Like, never.*<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>I think I\u2019ve pointed out several holes in what appears to be fairly simple user-generated-data which reminds me of a similar story over at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zomato.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zomato<\/a>. I don\u2019t want to be the teetotaller or shout negative about something positive these aggregators-of-opinion are trying to do.<\/p>\n<p>The point I wish to drive home is, as products (or brands), they have to be better curators. Amassing quantity is fine. Quality control is important too.<\/p>\n<p>The bright side being Indian cities score highly on the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nomadlist.com\/cheapest-cities-in-the-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cheapest<\/a>\u201d list but if that\u2019s the only category you\u2019re attracting I would be a little worried.<\/p>\n<p><em>*Ok, almost never.
